EcoFlow plug-in solar in the UK: what buyers need to know in 2026
EcoFlow is one of the most visible brands in this space, but its UK range now includes both solar-only microinverter products and battery-based STREAM systems. Those are not the same thing under the new UK rules.
Do not treat “EcoFlow STREAM” as one legal category. EcoFlow uses STREAM across microinverters, solar kits and battery products. The UK plug-in solar IPS applies only to compliant solar-only products and explicitly excludes plug-in battery systems.
What EcoFlow is currently selling in the UK
EcoFlow's UK site now has a dedicated STREAM solar system built around its STREAM Microinverter, alongside STREAM Ultra, Ultra X and AC battery products.
EcoFlow's UK product-security compliance page also lists a STREAM 800W Micro Inverter with cable kit, which shows the company has a UK-specific microinverter product presence.
That is useful evidence of UK market intent, but PSTI/product-security documentation is not the same thing as proof of compliance with the plug-in solar IPS.
The battery problem
EcoFlow heavily markets STREAM battery systems in the UK, including products that can AC-couple to microinverters or connect through wall sockets.
The final government IPS is explicit: it does not cover plug-in batteries or plug-in solar products incorporating electrical energy storage.
So a STREAM battery system cannot simply be described as “legal under the new plug-in solar rules” because the solar-only rules do not apply to it.
EcoFlow's own UK wording shows the distinction
EcoFlow's UK store currently states that some STREAM battery products are supplied with a cable with stripped ends and require hardwiring by a certified, registered electrician.
That is completely different from the new self-install solar-only route using a manufacturer-supplied BS 1363 plug.
What would I need to verify before calling an EcoFlow solar kit IPS-compliant?
- The exact UK product/model being sold.
- Manufacturer evidence that the complete product meets the final IPS.
- 800VA / 3.5A AC limits.
- The manufacturer-supplied non-rewireable BS 1363 plug with 5A fuse.
- The exact solar modules included or approved.
- The mounting arrangement included or approved.
- Consumer-unit and socket-circuit instructions.
- G98/DNO documentation for the exact product.
- Confirmation that the configuration contains no battery if it is being sold under the solar-only route.
Is the STREAM Microinverter itself enough?
No. This is the same issue we have with APsystems and other microinverters.
A technically capable 800W microinverter is only one component. The new UK route is for a complete product placed on the market by the manufacturer.
What about EcoFlow PowerStream?
PowerStream was designed around the European balcony-solar market and is still useful context for how EcoFlow entered this category.
But UK buyers should not use an older PowerStream article, European plug arrangement or battery bundle as proof that it fits the final UK 2026 product rules.
Would I buy one now?
I would be interested in EcoFlow because it has strong UK support, a mature app/ecosystem and it is clearly investing in this market.
But I would only buy a product for the new plug-in route once the exact UK listing and documentation clearly show the complete solar-only kit meets the final IPS.
My current status for EcoFlow: serious UK contender, but verify the exact configuration. Do not let a battery-heavy STREAM product page blur the difference between the new solar-only route and other electrical-storage products.
Independent editorial content. Product ranges and documentation can change, so check the exact UK configuration before purchase.
